Thiago Torres is a Public Health Scientist and Professor at Instituto Nacional de Infectología Evandro Chagas (INI-Fiocruz) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with nearly 15 years of experience in HIV research. His initial work focused on improving HIV care of the aging HIV population though in the past 10 years it has expanded to prevention with a strong focus on sexual/gender minorities. He completed his PhD at Fiocruz and an internship training in biostatistics at the ACTG Statistical and Data Analysis Center (Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health). He also has large experience in intellectual property, with post-graduate training in Université de Strasbourg, France.
Dr. Torres has been working in behavioural and prevention studies targeting sexual/gender minorities, including web-based studies and digital health. He is part of the scientific board of large PrEP demonstration and implementation studies conducted in Latin America (PrEP Brasil and ImPrEP). He has been closely involved in community engagement and recruitment strategies for prevention clinical trials, such as HPTN 083 and HPTN 085.
