HPTN Black Caucus Mourns Loss of Dr. Stephaun Wallace

Aug 15, 2023

Dr. WallaceWith the heaviest of hearts and profound sadness, we acknowledge the untimely passing of our brother, friend, and colleague, Dr. Stephaun Elite Wallace. Dr. Wallace passed away peacefully on August 5, 2023, surrounded by family, friends, and medical caregivers. He was a man of grace and talent who dedicated his life to advocacy, and he did it with the utmost warmth, style, elegance, and a voice that would make you want to listen to every word he said.

Dr. Wallace’s journey began in Los Angeles, where he discovered his passion for public health and social justice. Continuing his life’s journey took him across the globe to fight for those who grew tired of fighting. Dr. Wallace finally landed in Seattle, earning a Walden University doctorate. Instead of pursuing a post-doc, Dr. Wallace began doing the deep work of a researcher skilled in community engagement, advocacy, and training the next generation. Dr. Wallace touched the lives of many, and because of that, his legacy will live on for countless years to come.

We thank Dr. Wallace for his service, for his scholarship, and for the love he gave to so many. Now he rests in power with the ancestors who have passed before him; some young, some old but all with the highest honor. Dr. Wallace, we will miss your physical presence, but now we all have the privilege of feeling your warm spirit, wherever we are, watching over us as we continue to carry on with your life’s work. Rest in peace, brother.  Ase’.
